My granddaddy, Hubert Godwin, was born in the Irwinville jail. They lived in the Jesse Luke house east of the Dr. Wilcox house and west of the old Baptist Church. In 1940, both church and house was burnt by a fire which caused my family to move to the Irwinville jail quarters.
